Last updated: May 29, 2026

Plain language terms for using our website and participating in our community programs.

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Gentle Technology website (techgently.org) or participating in any of our programs, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use our website or services. These terms apply to all visitors, participants, volunteers, and donors.

About Our Services

Gentle Technology is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides free, community-based technology education to adults aged 60 and older and to underserved communities in the Memphis, Tennessee area.

Our services consist exclusively of technology education and guided instruction conducted at community venues. Our specialists guide and instruct participants — they do not repair devices, install software independently, or perform any technical work on a participant's device without the participant's direct involvement and consent.

We do not offer home visits. All sessions take place at community locations announced in advance.

Eligibility

Our free community sessions are available to:

  • Adults aged 60 and older residing in the greater Memphis area.
  • Members of underserved communities in the Memphis area who need technology assistance.

Private workshops may be available to other individuals or organizations on a fee or donation basis. Contact us for details.

Participant Conduct

We are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment at all sessions. Participants agree to:

  • Treat all staff, volunteers, and fellow participants with courtesy and respect.
  • Follow any venue-specific rules communicated at the time of the session.
  • Refrain from using devices for illegal activity, harassment, or accessing harmful content during sessions.
  • Understand that our specialists are educators, not repair technicians, and that they will guide rather than operate your device independently.

We reserve the right to ask any participant to leave a session if their conduct is disruptive or harmful to others.

Device & Data Disclaimer

You are responsible for your own device and its data. Before attending a session, we strongly encourage you to:

  • Back up any important photos, contacts, or files.
  • Know your device's passcode or login credentials.

Gentle Technology and its volunteers are not responsible for any data loss, device damage, or unintended changes that may occur during or after a session. Our specialists provide guidance only — all actions on your device are taken by you.

Donations

Donations made through our website are processed securely by Stripe. All donations are voluntary and non-refundable except as required by law or at our sole discretion in cases of documented error.

Gentle Technology is a recognized 501(c)(3) organization. Donations may be tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. We will provide a receipt for your records. Please consult a tax advisor regarding your specific situation.

We use donations to fund our community programs, volunteer training, and operational costs. We do not use donations for political activities.

Intellectual Property

All content on this website — including text, graphics, logos, and educational materials — is the property of Gentle Technology or its content contributors and is protected by applicable copyright and trademark law. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without our written permission. Personal, non-commercial use for educational purposes is permitted with attribution.

Disclaimer of Warranties

Our website and services are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the website will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses. Technology education is provided in good faith; outcomes will vary based on individual circumstances, device type, and prior experience.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Gentle Technology, its officers, volunteers, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of our website or participation in our programs, including but not limited to device damage, data loss, or reliance on information provided during sessions.

Governing Law

These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these terms shall be resolved in the courts of Shelby County, Tennessee.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Your continued use of our website or services after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
